3. Getting Started

Interface Overview

  1. When you first open SendLog, you'll land on the main tab interface
  2. The app has five main tabs:
    • SendLogs: View your completed climbs
    • Projects: Track routes you're working on
    • Training: Log gym and training sessions
    • Statistics: Analyze your climbing data
    • Settings: Customize your preferences
  3. To start logging, navigate to the SendLogs tab and tap the "+" button

Creating Your First Entry

  1. Tap the "+" button in the SendLogs tab
  2. Fill in the route details:
    • Climbing area and crag
    • Route name
    • Difficulty grade (based on your chosen grade system)
    • Send type (onsight, flash, redpoint, etc.)
    • Route type (Sport, Boulder, Multi-Pitch)
    • Personal rating (1–5 stars)
    • Date and notes
  3. Tap Save to add the climb, or tap X to cancel

4. Logging Climbs

Recording a Send

  1. From the SendLogs tab, tap the "+" button to open the new-entry overlay
  2. Fill in the route details:
    • Area: General climbing location (e.g., "Yosemite")
    • Crag: Specific wall or sector (e.g., "El Capitan")
    • Route: Name of the climb
    • Grade: Select difficulty from the full-range grade picker
    • Send Type: Onsight, flash, redpoint, etc.
    • Route Type: Sport, Boulder, or Multi-Pitch
    • Rating: 1–5 stars personal rating
    • Date: When you completed the climb
    • Notes: Any additional details
  3. Tap Save to add the climb

Finding Routes in the Central Database

SendLog includes a community-shared route database that lets you look up existing routes and pre-fill your log form automatically.

Searching for a route:

  1. In the new send form, tap the πŸ” icon button next to the Route field to open the route search overlay
  2. Type the route name in the search bar β€” results update as you type
  3. Optionally type a crag name in the Crag filter field to narrow the results
  4. Each result shows:
    • Route name and crag/area
    • Grade
    • How many SendLog users have sent or are projecting the route
    • Community rating: the average star rating across all climbers who have logged that route (shown once at least one rating exists)
    • A πŸ‘€ icon if you originally created that route entry
  5. Tap a result to close the overlay and pre-fill Route, Crag, Area, and Grade automatically
  6. A βœ“ icon replaces the πŸ” icon to confirm the route is linked to the database

If the route doesn't exist yet: scroll to the bottom of the results and tap Create new route to add it to the shared database as you save your log.

Unlinking a route: if you edit the Route, Crag, or Area fields after linking, the link is automatically removed and the icon reverts to πŸ” β€” your send will no longer count towards that route's shared statistics.

Editing an existing log: if a send or project already has a linked route, the edit overlay shows the βœ“ icon (with πŸ‘€ if you own the route entry).

Viewing and Editing Logs

  1. All sends appear chronologically in the SendLogs tab
  2. Tap any entry to open the full detail view
  3. In the detail view you can:
    • Edit any field by tapping Edit (opens the same overlay interface)
    • Duplicate the send by tapping the copy icon (⧉) β€” a new entry form opens pre-filled with the same area, crag, grade, route type, send type, rating and notes. Route name is left blank and auto-focused for quick entry; date defaults to today.
    • Delete the log (with confirmation prompt)

Managing Repeat Ascents

Log every time you climb a route again, with its own date, send type and notes.

Viewing Ascent History

  1. From the route detail view, scroll down to the Ascent History section
  2. Ascents are listed in reverse chronological order
  3. The original send is marked (First Send); repeats are marked (Repeat)

Adding a Repeat Ascent

  1. In the route detail view, tap Add Repeat Ascent
  2. Fill in the overlay form:
    • Date: When you repeated the route
    • Send Type: May differ from your first send
    • Notes: Details specific to this ascent
  3. Tap Save. You remain in the detail view so you can add further ascents immediately

Editing and Deleting Ascents

  1. Tap any ascent to edit its details in the overlay
  2. Swipe left on an ascent entry to delete it

Statistics Integration

Filtering and Searching

5. Project Tracking

Adding a New Project

  5. The project is automatically set to Active status
  6. Tap Save to create the project, or X to cancel

Logging Attempts

  1. Select a project from the Projects tab
  2. Tap Log Attempt
  3. Record the attempt details:
    • Date of the attempt
    • High point reached
    • Notes about what worked or what to try next
    • Whether you completed the route (Was Successful)

Project Categories

Projects are organized into three sections:

  1. Active: Routes you're currently working on
  2. Completed: Projects you've successfully sent
  3. Abandoned: Projects you've set aside

When you complete a project:

  1. Log your final attempt and check Was Successful
  2. The project automatically moves to Completed and a matching SendLog entry is created

These indicators appear in send lists, project lists, detail views, statistics charts and share cards.

Setting a Route Type

  1. In any send or project form, locate the Route Type picker
  2. Select Sport, Boulder, or Multi-Pitch
  3. New entries default to Sport

Tap the ? button next to the title for explanations of each metric.

Key Statistics

Charts

Training Stats Section NEW in 3.11

A dedicated Training section appears below the Route Types chart, showing stats for the active period: Sessions, Total Time, Training Days, Avg / Week, and a by-type bar chart. Hidden only when no training sessions have ever been logged.

8. Goals Updated in 3.9

The Goals feature lets you set personal targets and track your progress directly on the Statistics tab. Goals sync across devices when Cloud Sync is enabled.

Accessing Goals

  1. Go to the Stats tab
  2. Scroll down to the Goals & Streaks section
  3. Tap Edit Goals to manage your goals

Goal Types

Adding a Goal

  1. Tap Edit Goals on the Stats tab
  2. Tap the + button in the top-right corner
  3. Select a goal type and configure the target
  4. Tap Add Goal to save

Editing and Deleting a Goal

Tap any goal in the Goals editor to open it. Active goals can be updated and saved. To delete a goal, tap Delete Goal at the bottom of the edit form. Achieved grade goals show a read-only achievement view with a Delete Achievement button.

Goal Achievement

A confetti animation plays the first time a goal is reached. Grade goals are only achieved by actual sends β€” a route you have as a project does not count. Achieved goals are shown in a separate section and kept as a permanent record even if you set new goals.

9. Training Log Updated in 3.11

The Training tab lets you record non-climbing training activities — hangboard, campus board, gym sessions, yoga, cardio, and more — and track your training stats alongside your climbing data.

Logging a Session

  1. Tap the Training tab
  2. Tap + in the top-right corner
  3. Fill in the session details:
    • Date — defaults to today
    • Type — Hangboard, Campus Board, System Wall, Gym Session, Yoga, Cardio, or Other
    • Duration — adjust in 15-minute steps (15–300 min)
    • Intensity — rate 1–5
    • Notes — optional free text
  4. Tap Save Session

Viewing Session Details NEW in 3.11

Tap any session row to open a full detail view — the same push-navigation pattern as climb logs. The detail view shows Type, Date, Duration, Intensity and Notes in a two-column layout. From there:

Training Stats

Training statistics appear on the Statistics tab in a dedicated section (see Statistics → Training Stats Section). The Training tab itself is a pure session log.

Training Days in the Calendar Heatmap

Training sessions appear as orange cells in the Stats tab heatmap, distinct from blue climbing cells. Days with both climbing and training show blue.

Cloud Sync

Training sessions sync automatically alongside climbs when Cloud Sync is enabled, and are viewable and editable from the Web App at sendlog.at/app.

10. Photos NEW in 3.7

Attaching Photos to a Climb

  1. Open the detail view of any climb in your SendLogs
  2. Tap the camera icon to attach a photo from your photo library or take a new one
  3. Photos are stored on-device and displayed in the climb's detail view

Viewing Photos

Photo Sync

Deleting Photos

11. Voice Notes

Recording a Voice Note

  1. When adding or editing a climb in the overlay form, tap the microphone icon in the Notes field
  2. Speak your notes β€” the speech recognition engine converts speech to text in real time
  3. Review and edit the transcribed text before saving

Set your preferred speech recognition language in Settings β†’ Speech Recognition:

12. Sharing Your Achievements

Creating a Share Card

  1. Navigate to any climb in your SendLog list
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. The app generates a share card showing:
    • Route name and grade
    • Climbing area
    • Send type with icon
    • Route type (Sport, Boulder, or Multi-Pitch)
    • Date of completion
    • Your personal star rating

Sharing Options

  1. Save the card image to your photo library
  2. Share directly to social media
  3. Send via any messaging app using the iOS share sheet

13. Cloud Sync & Web App NEW in 3.7

Cloud Sync is an optional feature available exclusively to iOS users. The app works fully offline without it β€” all your climbs, projects and statistics are always stored locally on your device. Cloud Sync uploads your data in the background whenever a connection is available, and unlocks the SendLog Web App.

Requirements

Enabling Cloud Sync

  1. Open the app and go to Settings → Cloud Sync
  2. Tap Enable Cloud Sync
  3. Tap Sign in with Apple and authenticate
  4. Once signed in, all your climbs, projects, ascents and photos start syncing automatically

What Syncs

All data is encrypted in transit.

Multi-Device Support

  1. Install SendLog on another iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to Settings → Cloud Sync and sign in with the same Apple ID
  3. Your full logbook syncs to the new device automatically

The SendLog Web App

Once Cloud Sync is enabled, your logbook is accessible from any browser at sendlog.at/app. This is a full web application β€” not just a read-only view. You can manage your entire climbing log from a desktop or laptop.

Getting Started

  1. Go to https://sendlog.at/app in any modern browser
  2. Sign in with the same Apple ID you use in the iOS app
  3. Your logbook loads automatically

What You Can Do in the Web App

Limitations Compared to the iOS App

The Web App covers the core logbook features but does not yet include everything available on iOS:

Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your cloud account and all associated data in two ways:

This action is irreversible and removes all cloud-stored data. Your locally stored data on the iOS device is not affected.

14. Data Management

Exporting Your Data

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Export SendLogs
  2. The app creates a ZIP archive with all climbing data in enhanced CSV format:
    • Complete data: All route details, repeat ascents, and climbing history
    • Enhanced format: Columns for ascent type (FirstSend vs Repeat), ascent date, and ascent notes
    • Backward compatible: Can be imported by older versions of the app
  3. Choose where to save or share the ZIP file
  4. A progress indicator shows export status

You can also export CSV directly from the Web Dashboard at sendlog.at/app β†’ Account.

Importing Data

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Import SendLogs
  2. Select a previously exported ZIP file
  3. The app automatically detects the format:
    • Legacy format (14 columns): Imports seamlessly from any older version
    • Enhanced format (18+ columns): Fully restores repeat ascents and all history
  4. The app validates the file and shows import progress (routes and ascents imported)

Backward Compatibility

15. Settings and Preferences

Grade System

Choose your preferred climbing grade system:

  1. French β€” 3b to 10b (36 grades), including intermediate grades like 5b+, 5c+
  2. UIAA β€” 3 to 15βˆ’ with proper international alignment
  3. YDS β€” 5.3 to 5.16c, including 5.9+ and 5.10a+

The grade picker in the app covers the full range for all three systems.

Speech Recognition

Select your language for voice notes: English, German, French, or Spanish.

Cloud Sync

Enable or disable Firebase-based cloud sync, manage your signed-in Apple ID, or delete your cloud account. See section 11 for details.

Data Management

Access export and import options for your climbing logs. See section 12 for details.

17. Partner API Keys NEW in 3.9

Partner API Keys let you give a third-party app or script read-only access to your SendLog data β€” for example a home dashboard, a spreadsheet that tracks your progress, or a custom training analysis tool β€” without sharing your password.

Generating a Key

  1. Open the Web App at sendlog.at/app and sign in
  2. Go to My Account (person icon, top-right)
  3. Scroll to the API Keys section and tap + Generate
  4. Give the key a label and select the data scopes it may access (climbs:read, training:read, goals:read)
  5. Copy the key immediately β€” for security it is never shown again

You can revoke any key at any time from the same page. Keys are read-only β€” they cannot create, edit, or delete your data. Full API documentation is available at sendlog.at/docs/api.
